REVIEW: YOUNIQUE MOONSTRUCK 3D FIBERS MASCARA + DEMO VIDEO

6.11.2014

I don't think there is one person in this universe that is NOT on a constant hunt for the holy grail mascara. If you're a makeup snob like me, you're looking for many holy grail mascaras. You hoard them. You never give up. Well, I found a product that may change all of that. Don't run and throw out your 17 tubes of mascara ranging from Covergirl to Givenchy, read through this review and decide if it's for you (probably will be.)

The Back Story

As I was scrolling through Instagram one night as I always do, I found myself going through hashtags. I'm not sure what I was looking at, but all I know is I saw a picture of someone with ridiculous eyelashes. Of course, I had to dig in. Instagram is a great place to market your business or items, if you know how to do it correctly. If you're an avid Instagrammer, you know this. The woman who posted the photo of the crazy eyelashes ended up promoting the mascara used to get the falsie look I craved. Younique Moonstruck 3D Mascara.

Prior to my Instagram discovery, I had never heard of Younique cosmetics. I never believe the hype of products, I always do my research first, and that is exactly what I did. I read up on the Younique website, I read reviews on MakeupAlley, and I watched a few review videos on YouTube. It seemed to be a well-liked product. Coming in at $30, I was hesitant to click the "Add To Cart" button. I have a large collection of mascaras, ranging from drugstore to luxury, and more than half of them costing $30, or even more. I hesitated for just a few seconds, then just went for it. When you purchase Younique products, you buy through an independent seller. It's much like Mary Kay or Avon. I placed my order that night and had the mascara in my hands two days later.

The Review

When I pulled it out of the mailbox, I couldn't wait to sit down and try it out. There are two tubes of product, one being the Transplant Gel, which holds all of the fibers. The second tube, of course, is the fibers. They're packaged together in a pretty case resembling a case for sunglasses. I'm a sucker for packaging...I was very pleased.

The instructions direct you to put on a coat of your own favorite mascara, but after experimenting I found I liked the results much better when I applied the Transplanting Gel straight onto bare eyelashes. I applied a very generous coat, and went straight for the fibers. The part I was most looking forward to!

The lash fibers remind me a lot of little black dust bunnies that hang out on your ceiling fan (they get everywhere like them, too.)

Immediately after applying the lash fibers, I saw a huge difference. One coat of the lash fibers had my eyelashes looking like I applied 10 coats of my regular mascara. It's hard to stop after that. I went through the Transplanting Gel/Fibers cycle 6 times, generously applying the product every time. After the 6 coats of the Younique mascara duo, I truly had the false lash look. I would call it a "natural" false lash look, as there is no look of a heavy "band" of lashes weighing your eyes down. The look is closer to if you were wearing individual lashes.

I was extremely impressed with the look of my lashes, however the black dust bunnies were sitting all over my face and they DID leave black marks. I recommend applying this mascara before your foundation and eyeshadow as it will mess it up very quickly. Another con, it does clump up quite a bit. This may not be a problem for some, but it is nothing an eyelash comb can't fix! When I went to remove the mascara, It was a bit of extra work to remove it. This was a major downside compared to actual false eyelashes, as with falsies all you do is peel them off. For those who don't like false eyelashes or never have tried them, the Younique mascara isn't much harder to remove than your typical waterproof mascara. This could be a good thing, you know your mascara won't be going anywhere. It is not advertised as a waterproof mascara, but I found it to have great staying power.

The Verdict

Overall, the pros outweigh the cons of this mascara. I'm extremely impressed with it, it is the only mascara I have found that does live up to claim that it gives a false eyelash look. Despite the time it takes to apply and remove, it is well worth it to me. Even when I don't feel like going all out and having extravagant fabulous drag lashes, I use the Transplanting Gel on its own. I highly recommend this mascara to anyone who wants the false lash look, whether you're tired of applying them everyday or you don't know how to apply them, (it is a task at first, I admit it.) this is the product for you!

I purchased the Younique mascara here.

*All opinions are my own. This post is NOT sponsored by Younique, nor do I sell Younique products. I purchased this mascara with my own money.
