3 HILARIOUS INSTAGRAM ACCOUNTS YOU SHOULD BE FOLLOWING

7.23.2014

1. Airportstyles

You guessed it, this Instagram showcases the fashion elite of airports across the world. The account is run by Canadian DJ duo Chromeo, they snap the chicest of looks while flying across the globe to their next gig. The comments are almost as funny as the photos. Pink is back, spread the news bitches.

2. KanyeDoingThings

Pictures of Kanye West doing things. That's it.

3. FlyArtProductions

If you have a tumblr account, you've most likely reblogged a FlyArt masterpiece. When you add equal parts of rap to art, out comes a FlyArt. Rap lyrics (verses?) are posted onto classic art pieces that seem like they were created just for the song's music video. It's kind of fucking genius.

P.S. I haven't re-installed Photoshop on my laptop. Can't you tell by the shitty graphics?

REVIEW: YOUNIQUE MOONSTRUCK 3D FIBERS MASCARA + DEMO VIDEO

6.11.2014

I don't think there is one person in this universe that is NOT on a constant hunt for the holy grail mascara. If you're a makeup snob like me, you're looking for many holy grail mascaras. You hoard them. You never give up. Well, I found a product that may change all of that. Don't run and throw out your 17 tubes of mascara ranging from Covergirl to Givenchy, read through this review and decide if it's for you (probably will be.)

REVIEW: REDKEN BLONDE IDOL CUSTOM-TONE CONDITIONER (BEFORE + AFTER)

6.09.2014

All my fake blondes out there know just how hard it is to keep that pain in the ass brass away. You try to do everything you can, but even then it just isn't enough and you find yourself standing in the bathroom rolling your eyes as you impatiently rub toner into your hair. If you're not busting the doors down at the salon with $60 in your hand, that is. I have a cabinet full of purple and blue tone products that are supposed to fight brass and tone your hair, which most of them are a flop. That doesn't stop me, though. I don't give up hope!

REVIEW: GLAMGLOW THIRSTYMUD

6.01.2014

If you're a beauty snob and take a trip to Sephora 4 times a week, surely you've seen the GLAMGLOW line. If you're active on social media and keep up with the latest YouTube beauty gurus, surely you've heard about it. First, let's learn a little bit about GLAMGLOW. Sephora's website will introduce us:
"GLAMGLOW was originally designed for exclusive professional backstage use in Hollywood. In 2011, GLAMGLOW became available to consumers worldwide and is now one of the hottest brands in skincare. Known for fast-acting and innovative mud treatments, their patent-pending formulas combine real pieces of leaf with high-end technology to deliver instant, visible results."

MY SUMMER FRAGRANCES

5.06.2014

One of the (only) things I love about summer is being able to wear some of my favorite perfumes! It's an exciting moment when I'm able to move my summer fragrances from the bathroom cabinet hideout to my vanity. I usually have close to a million bottles, but this year I sorted through them in attempt to keep my vanity neat. I've narrowed it town to three of my favorites that i'll be wearing this summer. I can't promise I won't be adding anymore as the summer goes on! Shh!

FRESH'S CITRON DE VIGNE

4.22.2014

I am completely lusting over Fresh's Citron de Vigne candle. I'm a huge fan of the fragrance and was pleasantly surprised when I came across the candle on their website! Citron de Vigne is my go-to fragrance in the summer. The scent is so nostalgic to me and takes me back to Las Vegas where I first discovered it.

Fresh describes Citron de Vigne as, A sparkling blend of citrus notes and a pinot noir accord that fills the room with the essence of champagne.

If you're a Citron de Vigne fan or you're interested in smelling it, you can purchase the candle here. You can purchase the fragrance here.

WANNABE BIRKENSTOCKS - $$$?

3.27.2014

As I was crying into my coffee while window shopping on Net-A-Porter, I noticed this pair of $795 Givenchy floral sandal/Birkenstock...knock-offs? Wow, that is pretty pricey considering they're nearly a copy of the original style that costs a fraction of the price.

In case you are staring at your screen in confusion wondering why we're talking about your mother's favorite birth control sandal or why you'd want to wear Kim Kardashian's sofa on your feet. Well, these Birkenstock style sandals are it this season. Who would've guessed? You either love them or you hate them, there is not too much of an in between. They are, however, the most comfortable shoes your feet will ever be graced with. If you're a fan, I suggest going to get the real thing. Comfy and will last you forever.

A lot of brands, such as Zara, and are replicating the Birk style for around $25-$99. That is great if you're hopping on the trend for just this season, but should you really drop almost a grand for a copy? The original Birkenstocks run you $70-$120 depending on the style and finish of the sandal (there are so many, you'll never be able to choose!) Yep, that is about SIX times less than the Givenchy copy. Birkenstock has even gone as far as posting a counterfeit reference guide (view here) front and center on their website. You go, Birkenstock. Ain't nobody stealing your thunder!

What do you all think? Would you drop that kind of money on a copy of a cheaper shoe? If so, I'd love to hear why!

DESIGNER CRUSH: MEGAN FEUILLE | PALOMA INTERIOR DESIGN

3.14.2014

There is nothing more exciting than discovering a designer with lustful portfolios where it seems like they just get you, you know? A design soul mate, if you will. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, you develop a designer crush! I decided to start a new series where I share my crushes, and maybe you'll start crushing, too!

Can we talk about the new Proenza Schouler boutique located in SoHo New York City designed by David Adjaye? Adjaye turned this two level 2,500 sq. ft. space into a minimalist's wonderland complete with breathtaking marble puzzles on the wall and laser-cut steel screens. It's a dream. Check it out!

SHOULD YOU EMPTY YOUR SAVINGS ACCOUNT FOR THAT?

2.27.2014

We all have an item we would kill for. Most of the time, these items cost way more than we can justify spending. That doesn't make us stop wanting it. In fact, we want it even more. We need it. This leads to the big question..."Should I really empty my savings account for that?"

STUFF

I love stuff. I'm always looking for stuff to decorate (take up space) with. I call it stuff because it really does not fit into a category. Kind of decor, kind of...stuff. I'm always rearranging and updating my bedroom, but the palette seems to stay the same. I like to get stuff that will match wherever my spontaneous ideas will take me next. I ditched my old tiny desk and purchased a lovely one from IKEA, so naturally I had to arrange it to perfection.

+I have many coffee table books with no place to keep them, so I took a few of my favorite Alexander McQueen books and set them under my desk lamp to give it more height.

+I purchased this gorgeous metallic silver fu dog (good Feng Shui!) from Home Goods for only $16! I had been on the hunt for one, and when I saw it, I had to have it. Home Goods never lets me down.

+My Walgreens always has a large supply of reasonably priced bamboo. Bamboo is a great way to add some color into any space (also good Feng Shui!). I keep this mini one on my desk and a larger one on my dresser.

+Along with stuff, i love planners. I don't care how many planners I have, I always need one more. I picked up this sugar paper desk sized planner from the clearance section at Target for about $5.

+I dropped into Bed Bath & Beyond yesterday to check out some candles, and I found this Maison Grove reed diffuser in the clearance section. It's tobacco and bergamot scented and it is fabulous! It's not too strong, which is great for a scent like that.

I promised a desk/office space reveal and I will have that coming to you soon, I promise!

HOW TO BE THE PERFECT FAKE BLONDE - CARING FOR BLONDE HAIR

2.03.2014

Blondes really do have more fun. Being blonde isn't easy, though. It's high maintenance, expensive, and a pain in the ass. You fake blondes out there know what I'm talking about. Don't worry! I'm here to help! I won't exaggerate like your hair stylist does while trying to talk you out of it.

If you're planning on going blonde,  you need to be sure you really want to be a blonde. I tried going blonde 3 times before, all times I got impatient, gave up, and dyed my hair back to black. I know this isn't what you want to hear, but it is a process. It's a (slow) gradual process. You could bleach your head 3-4 times and have gorgeous yellow mush on your head, but I don't recommend it. This takes me to my first tip:

1. GO SEE A PROFESSIONAL!!!!!! - NO you don't know what you're doing and NO your hair probably can't take 4 bleachings to get you from black to platinum. I made the mistake of trying to go blonde on my own and it was a disaster. I had about 3 years of black dye on my hair and it took about a year to get down to the light blonde I am now, with the help of an amazing hair stylist of course. I'm still not where I want to be. I get full or partial highlights every 6 weeks along with my roots. Find a talented stylist you trust and you will be fine. Going blonde gradually is so worth it when your hair is in good condition. Cotton candy hair isn't cute, white or not.

2. Moisturizing and Repairing Shampoo (Wen by Chaz Dean) - I use Wen by Chaz Dean and I swear by it. Go pick yourself up some now! It is sold at Sephora or you can order on QVC for great deals. When your hair is being tortured by bleach, you really want to be using a moisturizing shampoo. Stay away from clarifying. Lather is not your friend. You think it is until it turns on you and turns your beautiful hair into a brassy mess. I can't say that my hair is damage free because of this, but it's almost damage free.

3. Purple/Blue Shampoo (Schwarzkopf Color Save Silver Shampoo) - This is the only purple shampoo I recommend (Step away from the Shimmer Lights!). It is the only purple shampoo I've used that actually kills the brass. It leaves you with a beautiful clean yellow and orange free blonde in just 1-4 minutes! If it's left in too long or used to often, it can give you a purple tint. Use it once or twice a week. It can also be a bit drying, so be sure to use a...

4. Deep Conditioner (Bumble and bumble Mending Masque) - A blonde's best friend. A deep conditioner is the most essential part of a fake blonde's hair care routine. You can use it every time you wash your hair if your hair really needs the moisture, or you can use it after every time you wash with purple shampoo. Leave it in for 5 minutes to 2 hours, too much moisture isn't such a bad thing. I recommend the Bumble and bumble Mending Masque. It was introduced to me by my hair stylist and it is gold. It's almost unbelievable how soft it leaves your hair!

*These are all the products I recommend and work for me, but feel free to substitute with your holy grails. Mine are better, though.

JANUARY PLAYLIST

January's playlist shows a huge variety of genres. From pop to tech house, my favorite songs this month got me switching my Pandora stations frequently! This month I have nonstop been listening to trap stars CAKED UP. Vine superstar Oscar Wylde and DJ Vegas Banger remix some of the most popular songs out right now, and they make them about 10x better. I highly recommend checking them out if you need some music to dance to (and some eye candy.)

+ Gas Pedal (CAKED UP Remix) - Sage The Gemini
+ Let Her Go (CAKED UP Remix) - Passenger
+ Donatella - Lady Gaga (duh.)
+ Hush (Catz N' Dogz Remix) - Thomas Schumacher
+ Sinister Strings - Pleasurekraft
+ My Favorite Mistake - Carlo Lio
+ This Is The End - Stefano Noferini

I'm in the process of updating my work/desk area (still waiting on the actual desk from IKEA), so I've been searching for inspiration everywhere. LPD NEW YORK

1.27.2014

I was finally able to get my hands on an LPD New York jersey style tee! Sizes quickly come and go, so it was difficult to finally catch one. I had originally been on the hunt for the Wang tee, but when I came across the McQueen tee on the Revolve Clothing website, there was no competition. I had to have it. I sized up on the men's tee for a relaxed look. I'd pair it with a pair of leather joggers, or fold up the bottom hem to make a crop and pair with a midi skirt.

Shop LPD New York on Revolve Clothing or Net-A-Porter.

DOGGY DECOR

1.24.2014

I love decorating my dog's eating area for holidays. Simply because I'm bored, crazy, and there is never "too much decorating." Ever. I went all out this Christmas, I put up an old mini Christmas tree that was sitting in the garage on my grandfather's vintage cow and a peppermint food bowl. For Valentines Day, I picked up this festive red bone shaped floor mat from Target for $5. I kept the peppermint food bowl until I can go look for the perfect one.

Target always has a few holiday decorative items for pets, but never enough for me. Target acknowledges there are crazy pet people out there, but not my level super crazy pet people.

FAKE BLONDE

1.20.2014

Hi babies! Long time no talk. I've taken the past two weeks to give my blog a little (or big) revamp. I've changed our name!

I started Sun City Style in 2013 as an outlet to express my obsession with fashion, while also showcasing and supporting local style, boutiques, and entertainment. As the year went on, my audiences and niches expanded. I now have readers all over the world and I have ventured into decor and lifestyle along with fashion. I felt it was time to take my brand and make it relateable(ish) to everyone, and that is just what I did!

Now my blog is FAKE BLONDE. Funny, I know. There's a very long story behind it. In short, I was asked if I was a fake blonde. Yes, yes I am a fake blonde! It's playful and funny, and is definitely a change from the hardcore and serious fashion blogs. There is enough of that anyway.

Don't worry - nothing else is changing. If you already follow me on social media such as Twitter and Instagram, my username change updates for you automatically. If you don't follow me yet, take this time to go and do so! *wink wink*

MY SKIN CARE ROUTINE

1.03.2014

 CLEANSING & MOISTURIZING

Clarisonic - This is the most important part of my skin care regime. If you don't have a Clarisonic yet, please RUN and get one. You will never have clean face like you get with this! I started using it about three years ago and it completely cleared up my acne. I still get the occasional hormonal breakout and some pimples, but nothing like it used to be. I owe it all to Clarisonic! I use the Deep Pore brush head, and it is a little too rough for me. If you have normal/sensitive skin try out the Normal brush head.

Philosophy Purity Made Simple - Another must-have for me. I will go and try a million different face cleansers and always come back to this one. It is fragrant free and doesn't leave your skin dry. Super gentle and removes the toughest eye makeup without burn or irritation. I use it with my Clarisonic to remove my makeup.

Thalgo Pure Velvet Cleansing Cream - I just received this for Christmas in a skin care gift set, and so far so good. Thalgo is gentle on my skin and smells amazing! I use this as my second cleansing after I remove my makeup with Purity Made Simple.

Thalgo Super Lift Tonic Lotion - This came in the skin care set as well, I'm not completely sold on toner but I will reach for it sometimes for an extra fresh feel.

MAC Studio Moisture Cream - My holy grail moisturizer. I always come back to it! I have fairly dry skin so I love a thick and creamy moisturizer and this is perfect! I use it day and night and it keeps my face moisturized for hours.

 TREATMENTS AND MASKS

Thalgo Freshness Exfoliator - I also got this for Christmas, and I LOVE it. It is my go to exfoliator now. It doesn't dry or irritate your skin, and has an amazing minty cooling feeling on your face when you're working it in. I don't find it rough on my skin at all, so I use it every other day.

Philosophy Miracle Worker Retnoid Pads - I just purchased these pads this weekend in a set with the Dark Spot Corrector during the Dillard's New Years Day Sale (full price set here - still a great deal!). The pads are supposed to fight wrinkles, fade discoloration, and give clarity to the skin. Yes, please! When you first get it, you need to pour the liquid onto the pads. Kinda fun! It doesn't burn when you apply it to your face and it seems like it absorbs in immediately.

Philosophy Miracle Worker Dark Spot Corrector -  I am desperate for this to work!!! I've heard nothing but great things and I am very hopeful. I have fair skin and very, very, very red acne scarring on my cheeks and nothing seems to help fade them. I've been using it every night after using the Retnoid Pads. It's a strange brownish bronze color, totally looks like you're putting self tanner on your face! Don't worry, it applies clear on the skin.

 LIP CARE

Lush Mint Julip Lip Scrub - This all natural lip scrub from Lush is amazing! I constantly have dry lips and they get sooo flaky. This scrub always takes care of me! It's easy with no mess. You can even eat it, too!

Jack Black Lip Balm - Jack Black is a men's skin care line, but this lip balm is amazing! It's thick and minty, I love putting it on after exfoliating with the Lush scrub at night.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment - This is my favorite everyday lip balm...ever! I'm on my third or fourth one now, it's the only lip balm I've completely finished. It's very soft (be careful) and moisturizing, it leaves your lips the softest they've ever been. Oh, and it has SPF 15! If you're a fan of quick on-the-go lip colors, check out the Fresh lip treatments in colors.

2013 RECAP

Oh,

2014

Happy New Year, babies! I hope you all had a great time ringing in 2014, and I hope you all are just as excited for the new year as I am! I have a great feeling about it, and I'm ready.

2013 was a good year, I can't complain. It was a year of closures and changes (it was a Year 9 for me, for those who are into numerology!) and in 2014 I am ready for my new start! Mid 2013 I started up my blog, and that was my greatest accomplishment. It has been so much fun and I am glad I jumped in. I can't wait to stay with you all through the new year! So, now let's get into New Year's Resolutions.

1. Skin Care - This year I'm going to be more diligent with my skin care. I want to get into good habits while I'm still young, the best cure is prevention! I'm not too bad with my skin care right now, but I only cleanse my face once a day. This year I am going to cleanse morning and night and invest in some great products. Oh, and wear my sunscreen everyday!

2. Giving Back - I am going to find an animal rescue, preferably a Pomeranian rescue, to donate $10 and some supplies to every month. My little pom gets so much love, and all the other rescue Poms deserve the same.

3. Blog More - My blog is a big part of my life, and I would like to share more. This year I am going to blog at least 4 times a week. I am going to try for everyday, but I will say 4 just to be good! Not only do I want to blog more, I am going to network more. A big part of getting your blog out there is to network, and make sure people KNOW about it.

4. Social Media - Funny, I know. This year I am going to be more active on my social media sites. I can admit I haven't been very good with it this year. In 2014, I am going to update my Sun City Style twitter account more, and most importantly interact with you all a whole lot more!

5. Eat Healthy - Duh.

2014 is going to be a great year for us all! I wish you nothing but happiness, luck, and success this year. Be kind and be positive, have passion is everything you do! Here is to a great new year!

Oh, and what are your resolutions? I'd like to hear. Maybe even pick some of them up for myself!
