Nail Of The Week 001 | Mermaid Nails

8.28.2013

nail combo

Since I recently took it upon myself to remove my own acrylic and tips and give a MUCH needed rest to my nails after a few years, I decided to start posting my nail polish for the week (original, right?)

This week I'd like to say farewell to summer by having my nails nude one last time, but this time with a be achy twist. I had purchased a limited edition Essie nail polish named "Shine of the times" that has glitter-y foil-y pieces that reflect light and resemble fish scales. I put it over Essie's nude "Vanity fairest" for a subtle look. When you put Shine of the times over black, it's not so subtle...

Pardon my iPhone photo, it was nearly impossible for my actual camera to pick up the polish.

You can purchase "Shine of the times" on Amazon.
You can purchase "Vanity fairest" on Amazon or at your local Walgreens.

My Fashion Story

8.27.2013

I love stories. Not just any stories (well yes, any stories...) but stories about how my friends and fellow bloggers fell in love with fashion. What captured your attention at first? When was the first time you felt something about fashion? What made you want to start a fashion blog?

Rewind a few years ago, I don't know how I came across it...I just did. I came across photos from Alexander McQueen's F/W 2009 collection. That was it, that was the first time i felt something for fashion.

Alexander McQueen's Fall/Winter 2009 show was to be a "reinvention" of the McQueen name and recycled looks from other designers, in his show he used past props and trash from older season's shows salvaged in the middle of the runway, and it didn't stop there. From the clothes to the music, was all recycled McQueen. I didn't find this out until later, but at the time it was the most beautiful and creative thing I had ever seen. I remember going back to the show uploaded on the internet, and watching it over and over. (I still do!) From there began a new immediate love and appreciation for this art.

Lee Alexander McQueen's dark romantic goth aesthetic mixed with his extravagant and creative, sometimes controversial structured clothing was everything. Still today, this aesthetic is my favorite. As one of McQueen's last shows, it will definitely be remembered.

One of the pieces that made me fall in love in the first place, was his "The Horn Of Plenty" dress. Made of dyed duck feathers, which made the dress look like a raven. A raven was a romantic symbol of death. I have a framed photo of this dress in my room, and I thought there was no better way to pay tribute to Alexander, than to get it tattooed. I have The Horn Of Plenty tattooed on my forearm with text underneath reading "God Save McQueen" It took about 5 hours, and was worth the pain. Out of my 10 tattoos, this was pain...

When this photo was taken, it was freshly healed and still a bit swollen.

I'd love to hear all of your fashion stories. Who or what made you fall in love? Leave a comment or write a post as well. Be sure to leave a link so I can check it out!

Feng Shui Your Workspace

8.21.2013

In these past weeks, I have been intensely researching Feng Shui. It has been something that really caught my attention and has been so much fun trying it out!

I Feng Shui-ed my room out and now I am moving on to my work space! A tiny corner in my sun room in the back of my house is what I call my office. I am in the process of making it my own and everything I love, and Feng Shui is helping giving me a head start!

I've come across a few blogs explaining how to to Feng Shui your workspace, and I did not hesitate to give it a try! I made a small set of everything you would need or is suggested, but feel free to make to switch in your own items!

Phillip Lim x Target: Sneak Peek

8.19.2013

The long awaited Phillip Lim and Target collection is finally on it's way, the line's lookbook has been revealed! Phillip Lim captures fall and this fall's big trend: oversize. Deep rich colors and boxy swing-type dresses. This is the first Target collection I am VERY excited about.

Phillip Lim x Target's line will include men's and women's clothing, shoes, and bags ranging from $19.99 - $299.99

The collection is set to hit store and online September 15.

This is my favorite piece of the collection. Will definitely be picking this up, along with TONS of the bags, they're adorable and very Pashli-esque.

To see the entire lookbook, check it out on the Target website.

Reason Clothing Vs. The Law

8.18.2013

As the huge shopper I am, online and offline, I have come across many cool designs that have caught my attention and that includes the witty t-shirts playing on designer names. They're one of my favorite real statement pieces and needless to say, I LIVE in them! Just enough sass for my wardrobe, easy and fun.

I had originally seen the "Ain't Laurent Without Yves" sweatshirt on tumblr (trendy fashion blogger wearing it, i need it, i got it, you know the cycle...) and decided to google it, I came across the REAL designer's website. I contemplated it for a while, and when they put the tank tops up on their site I jumped on it. As an avid ASOS shopper, I came across a t-shirt with the same saying written in a weird font, I really thought it was odd but did not think too much of it. Who knows, maybe it's the same brand, different design? Wrong.

It turns out, Reason Clothing is notorious for ripping off people's original designs. Brian Lichtenberg, and now What About Yves. Reason grabs designs from these brands, slaps them on cheap t-shirts, and ships them out to their stores and online retailers such as ASOS.com, Urban Outfitters, and Not Going Home. How can retailers as big as UO and ASOS with a just as big reputation to protect, carry these REPLICA items?

On the What About Yves blog, the company says this about the design theft:
When I first learned that Reason had ripped my ‘Ain’t Laurent' design I tried to be civil, I called up Reason's founder Phil Basis.  He gave me a load of BS and promised to not sell the design and that he would pull all current inventory.  Being the unoriginal PUSSY that he is Phil said one thing to my face and did a completely dick move behind my back. To date he has not made good upon his word.  - See more at: What About Yves
Good for them. Any designer of ANY item would be upset about someone stealing their designs. It doesn't matter the size of the company, whether they have a section at Barney's or not, theft is theft. I hate replicas or "fakes", as many people do. Not to mention, it is ILLEGAL.

On the Reason Clothing website under their "About" section, the company writes:

Founded in 2004, Reason Clothing is a full fledged menswear line committed to producing independent, quality, New York City based clothing. The brand’s range consists of t-shirts, caps, woven shirts, knitwear, premium denim, outwear, and accessories. Every piece of clothing released under the Reason Clothing label is designed, crafted, and inspected to ensure a quality product that can be enjoyed for years to come. Items are produced in very limited quantities and pieces comes individually numbered. - See more at: Reason Clothing

I'd like to urge you all as my readers, do NOT purchase anything from Reason Clothing that is a stolen design. That includes all of their "Homies" and "Ain't Laurent Without Yves" t-shirts. They are ripped off designs and need to be pulled from stores. If simply doing the right thing does not make Phil pull the clothing, maybe a huge or complete loss of sales will. If you are a fan of the designs and witty shirts, purchase them directly from the brand themselves.

Brian Lichtenberg "Homies" shirts and other items can be purchased at the official Brian Lichtenberg website.
What About Yves "Ain't Laurent Without Yves" shirts and other items can be purchased at (as listed on website):
Kitson - LA
Colette - Paris, France
L'Avant Gardiste - Paris, France
Incredibles - Hong Kong
Smesh - Australia

Please do not contribute to Reason by purchasing these items from Urban Outfitters, ASOS, or Not Going Home. They are not inspired OR original, they are complete REPLICAS and illegal.
