WANNABE BIRKENSTOCKS - $$$?

3.27.2014

As I was crying into my coffee while window shopping on Net-A-Porter, I noticed this pair of $795 Givenchy floral sandal/Birkenstock...knock-offs? Wow, that is pretty pricey considering they're nearly a copy of the original style that costs a fraction of the price.

In case you are staring at your screen in confusion wondering why we're talking about your mother's favorite birth control sandal or why you'd want to wear Kim Kardashian's sofa on your feet. Well, these Birkenstock style sandals are it this season. Who would've guessed? You either love them or you hate them, there is not too much of an in between. They are, however, the most comfortable shoes your feet will ever be graced with. If you're a fan, I suggest going to get the real thing. Comfy and will last you forever.

A lot of brands, such as Zara, and are replicating the Birk style for around $25-$99. That is great if you're hopping on the trend for just this season, but should you really drop almost a grand for a copy? The original Birkenstocks run you $70-$120 depending on the style and finish of the sandal (there are so many, you'll never be able to choose!) Yep, that is about SIX times less than the Givenchy copy. Birkenstock has even gone as far as posting a counterfeit reference guide (view here) front and center on their website. You go, Birkenstock. Ain't nobody stealing your thunder!

What do you all think? Would you drop that kind of money on a copy of a cheaper shoe? If so, I'd love to hear why!

There is nothing more exciting than discovering a designer with lustful portfolios where it seems like they just get you, you know? A design soul mate, if you will. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, you develop a designer crush! I decided to start a new series where I share my crushes, and maybe you'll start crushing, too!

Can we talk about the new Proenza Schouler boutique located in SoHo New York City designed by David Adjaye? Adjaye turned this two level 2,500 sq. ft. space into a minimalist's wonderland complete with breathtaking marble puzzles on the wall and laser-cut steel screens. It's a dream. Check it out!

SHOULD YOU EMPTY YOUR SAVINGS ACCOUNT FOR THAT?

2.27.2014

We all have an item we would kill for. Most of the time, these items cost way more than we can justify spending. That doesn't make us stop wanting it. In fact, we want it even more. We need it. This leads to the big question..."Should I really empty my savings account for that?"

STUFF

I love stuff. I'm always looking for stuff to decorate (take up space) with. I call it stuff because it really does not fit into a category. Kind of decor, kind of...stuff. I'm always rearranging and updating my bedroom, but the palette seems to stay the same. I like to get stuff that will match wherever my spontaneous ideas will take me next. I ditched my old tiny desk and purchased a lovely one from IKEA, so naturally I had to arrange it to perfection.

+I have many coffee table books with no place to keep them, so I took a few of my favorite Alexander McQueen books and set them under my desk lamp to give it more height.

+I purchased this gorgeous metallic silver fu dog (good Feng Shui!) from Home Goods for only $16! I had been on the hunt for one, and when I saw it, I had to have it. Home Goods never lets me down.

+My Walgreens always has a large supply of reasonably priced bamboo. Bamboo is a great way to add some color into any space (also good Feng Shui!). I keep this mini one on my desk and a larger one on my dresser.

+Along with stuff, i love planners. I don't care how many planners I have, I always need one more. I picked up this sugar paper desk sized planner from the clearance section at Target for about $5.

+I dropped into Bed Bath & Beyond yesterday to check out some candles, and I found this Maison Grove reed diffuser in the clearance section. It's tobacco and bergamot scented and it is fabulous! It's not too strong, which is great for a scent like that.

I promised a desk/office space reveal and I will have that coming to you soon, I promise!
