3 HILARIOUS INSTAGRAM ACCOUNTS YOU SHOULD BE FOLLOWING

7.23.2014

1. Airportstyles

You guessed it, this Instagram showcases the fashion elite of airports across the world. The account is run by Canadian DJ duo Chromeo, they snap the chicest of looks while flying across the globe to their next gig. The comments are almost as funny as the photos. Pink is back, spread the news bitches.

2. KanyeDoingThings

Pictures of Kanye West doing things. That's it.

3. FlyArtProductions

If you have a tumblr account, you've most likely reblogged a FlyArt masterpiece. When you add equal parts of rap to art, out comes a FlyArt. Rap lyrics (verses?) are posted onto classic art pieces that seem like they were created just for the song's music video. It's kind of fucking genius.

P.S. I haven't re-installed Photoshop on my laptop. Can't you tell by the shitty graphics?

SHOULD YOU EMPTY YOUR SAVINGS ACCOUNT FOR THAT?

2.27.2014

We all have an item we would kill for. Most of the time, these items cost way more than we can justify spending. That doesn't make us stop wanting it. In fact, we want it even more. We need it. This leads to the big question..."Should I really empty my savings account for that?"

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

Happy Valentines Day my little babies!

JANUARY PLAYLIST

1.31.2014

January's playlist shows a huge variety of genres. From pop to tech house, my favorite songs this month got me switching my Pandora stations frequently! This month I have nonstop been listening to trap stars CAKED UP. Vine superstar Oscar Wylde and DJ Vegas Banger remix some of the most popular songs out right now, and they make them about 10x better. I highly recommend checking them out if you need some music to dance to (and some eye candy.)

+ Gas Pedal (CAKED UP Remix) - Sage The Gemini
+ Let Her Go (CAKED UP Remix) - Passenger
+ Donatella - Lady Gaga (duh.)
+ Hush (Catz N' Dogz Remix) - Thomas Schumacher
+ Sinister Strings - Pleasurekraft
+ My Favorite Mistake - Carlo Lio
+ This Is The End - Stefano Noferini

2014

1.02.2014

Happy New Year, babies! I hope you all had a great time ringing in 2014, and I hope you all are just as excited for the new year as I am! I have a great feeling about it, and I'm ready.

2013 was a good year, I can't complain. It was a year of closures and changes (it was a Year 9 for me, for those who are into numerology!) and in 2014 I am ready for my new start! Mid 2013 I started up my blog, and that was my greatest accomplishment. It has been so much fun and I am glad I jumped in. I can't wait to stay with you all through the new year! So, now let's get into New Year's Resolutions.

1. Skin Care - This year I'm going to be more diligent with my skin care. I want to get into good habits while I'm still young, the best cure is prevention! I'm not too bad with my skin care right now, but I only cleanse my face once a day. This year I am going to cleanse morning and night and invest in some great products. Oh, and wear my sunscreen everyday!

2. Giving Back - I am going to find an animal rescue, preferably a Pomeranian rescue, to donate $10 and some supplies to every month. My little pom gets so much love, and all the other rescue Poms deserve the same.

3. Blog More - My blog is a big part of my life, and I would like to share more. This year I am going to blog at least 4 times a week. I am going to try for everyday, but I will say 4 just to be good! Not only do I want to blog more, I am going to network more. A big part of getting your blog out there is to network, and make sure people KNOW about it.

4. Social Media - Funny, I know. This year I am going to be more active on my social media sites. I can admit I haven't been very good with it this year. In 2014, I am going to update my Sun City Style twitter account more, and most importantly interact with you all a whole lot more!

5. Eat Healthy - Duh.

2014 is going to be a great year for us all! I wish you nothing but happiness, luck, and success this year. Be kind and be positive, have passion is everything you do! Here is to a great new year!

Oh, and what are your resolutions? I'd like to hear. Maybe even pick some of them up for myself!

Snow(ish) Day + Weekend Roundup

11.24.2013

*this post is photo heavy, and may contain quick snap photos taken with a trusty iPhone.
 — Today felt like the first day of actual winter, like, it was ACTUALLY cold. We also got half an inch of snow (yes.) but we will take what we can get. Sometimes here in Texas, it doesn't even snow half an inch in two years! It's not much, but the mountains looks amazing. I wish I could have caught a photo yesterday. The first photo is meant to trick you. I don't think we got enough snow to build a snowman...

— I've been having trouble with my blog email account, most frustrating thing in the world. This weekend has been so stressful because of it. Hopefully it is up and running and I can get back to work this week. It better.

— The Starbucks holiday drinks are officially out and I don't think I've ever been so excited about it than I have been this year. The caramel brulee latte is my favorite. I can't ever get my hands on an eggnog latte because they are always out of eggnog (?????????) You would think there is a worldwide shortage. I plan on making my own, more on that soon!

— Sprouts is my new favorite store.

— I posted a Kurt Geiger bag here on my wishlist posts, and when I went back to purchase it was no longer on sale. Ugh! I accepted that I lost out and was going to wait for it to possible go back on sale. Well, on my routine 1 a.m. Poshmark scrolls, I came across a bag identical to it. The Kurt Geiger back is flat, almost clutch-like. The bargain bag is a big wider on the bottom like an actual handbag. Much more practical for my lifestyle. However, it is suede. It worries me a bit, but I am looking into some suede protector spray. Not like it is essential in a dry place like here, but whatever.

— This week and weekend, I found myself on the Bloglovin' Popular Home Decor blog post section. My interest and obsession with interior decor has me wasting my day here. It's not wasted if I love it though, right? Endless inspiration.

— I'm about to do a small desk makeover. Since I have such a small space in my room to do some work, I need to make it glam. I'm expecting one more piece and need to do some painting, and I will have the transformation up.

This week I have so many posts coming up, I need to catch up. A lot of decor and beauty coming your way!

My Family Is Growing!

10.13.2013

No, I'm not talking about a baby. Well...kinda.

This weekend I purchased my very first DSLR! Guys - you don't understand my excitement. I had been going back and forth for a little while about investing in a good camera. I knew I would have to eventually, and I might as well do it while I have the funds. I picked out the Canon EOS Rebel t3i as suggested by many people for DSLR beginners, and I'm so glad I got it. I'm obsessed! The camera is glued to my hands.

I'm in the beginning process of learning how to get the best out of my camera and learning ALL about aperture, shutter speeds, and ISO. There are many blogs and YouTube videos helping me through it, and I am having so much fun! I have so much to show you all and now I can do it no problem without worrying about photo quality and doing certain things justice.

Also - I have Photoshop, but I am considering getting Lightroom as I hear it's easier and more efficient. All my DSLR and editing pros out there, what do you think?

Unregulated Sizing - Contributing To Poor Body Image?

9.12.2013

It's no secret that retailers's sizing charts are all over the place. A size small may be made to fit a size large in one company, and vice versa. It's all dependent on the company's sizing standards, country of the retailer, and how they are made - but how does it affect the consumer?

I came across many articles about clothing sizes and how it negatively affects a person's body image. One store seems to be the main subject of many of the articles, and that would be Zara. Zara is a Spain-based clothing and accessory retail store, and I admit they do carry beautiful pieces. Many other people think so as well, but it's their sizing that turns them away and right out the door. Their clothing sizes are European, which I find is rather regulated in other stores, but Zara's sizes don't seem to translate well to US sizing...not at all, actually.

Zara's size chart
According to Elle.com, Zara does not participate in "vanity sizing", vanity sizing is where a retailer basically allows the customer to fit in a size smaller than they actually wear. This can be great for a person who worries about their size tags and lets them affect their body image. Most people can admit to doing this, and I am one of them.

I read a comment on one of these articles, and it hit the nail right on the head.
This isn't about health, sizing or anyone's personal opinion as to how big or small someone 'should' be. This is about business: Do you want to sell to Americans, then make them in whatever size actually SELLS. Sell it or don't. Market it, or don't. If the super slim sizes sell, sell them. If they don't, then decide if you want to respond to what that particular customer base wants...or not.
It is frustrating and disheartening to walk into a store and picking up a size that usually fits you, to find that it fits 2-3 sizes too small. It definitely can fuel a negative self image. This a subject that not everyone can relate to, or have an issue with. However, I would love to still read your feedback and opinions on non-regulated clothing sizes.

Have you had a bad experience with a retailer and their sizing? Do you think Zara should change your clothing sizes to better accommodate American's?

My Fashion Story

8.27.2013

I love stories. Not just any stories (well yes, any stories...) but stories about how my friends and fellow bloggers fell in love with fashion. What captured your attention at first? When was the first time you felt something about fashion? What made you want to start a fashion blog?

Rewind a few years ago, I don't know how I came across it...I just did. I came across photos from Alexander McQueen's F/W 2009 collection. That was it, that was the first time i felt something for fashion.

Alexander McQueen's Fall/Winter 2009 show was to be a "reinvention" of the McQueen name and recycled looks from other designers, in his show he used past props and trash from older season's shows salvaged in the middle of the runway, and it didn't stop there. From the clothes to the music, was all recycled McQueen. I didn't find this out until later, but at the time it was the most beautiful and creative thing I had ever seen. I remember going back to the show uploaded on the internet, and watching it over and over. (I still do!) From there began a new immediate love and appreciation for this art.

Lee Alexander McQueen's dark romantic goth aesthetic mixed with his extravagant and creative, sometimes controversial structured clothing was everything. Still today, this aesthetic is my favorite. As one of McQueen's last shows, it will definitely be remembered.

One of the pieces that made me fall in love in the first place, was his "The Horn Of Plenty" dress. Made of dyed duck feathers, which made the dress look like a raven. A raven was a romantic symbol of death. I have a framed photo of this dress in my room, and I thought there was no better way to pay tribute to Alexander, than to get it tattooed. I have The Horn Of Plenty tattooed on my forearm with text underneath reading "God Save McQueen" It took about 5 hours, and was worth the pain. Out of my 10 tattoos, this was pain...

When this photo was taken, it was freshly healed and still a bit swollen.

I'd love to hear all of your fashion stories. Who or what made you fall in love? Leave a comment or write a post as well. Be sure to leave a link so I can check it out!

Wow, what a great feeling to finally start up this blog. I've been thinking about it for quite a while, and thinking about what my first post would be just as long. (yeah right - more like googling "How to write your first blog post"!) This introduction is much easier than I expected. After all, first impressions are everything!

It's been a long road here. I began with stalking every popular fashion blogger out there, both street style and personal style blogs. Which brought discovering amazing and talented designers, which then led me into watching every single show during all Fashion Weeks - from New York to Paris and every location in between. From the glorious Dolce & Gabanna Spring/Summer 2007 to the questionable Saint Laurent Paris Fall/Winter 2013. Good or bad, I'm into it all. After a while just watching got a bit boring, so I took myself on Tumblr and joined the rest of the fashion population reblogging looks from shows and posting my rants and raves. The street style blogs were great, I gained so much inspiration from them but it was missing one thing - a local feel.

My beautiful city of El Paso has an abundance of everything. With a population of almost reaching a million, that's pretty easy to guess. Delicious food, gorgeous scenery, historic buildings, and great style. Adorable boutiques and shops from eastside to westside, and people with just as great fashion and style. They are truly hidden gems in the city, and its time for a bright spotlight to bring them all to attention. With the extremely fast growing population of El Paso, Las Cruces, and Fort Bliss people's diverse styles will be growing with it. For all my newbies trying to figure out their personal style to my crazed fashion addicts like myself, I'm hoping to start a great community for all.

Cheers to a great and hopeful beginning!
xx
